Anthurium 'Crystallinum Minahasa Red' is a sought-after selection of the velvet-leaf crystallinum type, prized for its dramatic new growth. Fresh leaves emerge in a rich red to burgundy-bronze flush before maturing to deep, velvety green with bold silvery-white veins. The heart-shaped leaves are broad and quilted, and mature plants form a compact, upright clump. Its flowers are insignificant, so it is grown for its foliage.
Light: Bright, indirect light brings out the strongest red colouring in new leaves. Use east-facing light or 50-70% shade cloth. Direct sun scorches the velvety foliage, while low light dulls both the red flush and the vein contrast.
Watering: Keep the medium lightly moist but never soggy. Water when the top 2-3 cm feels dry. Use a chunky, fast-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, coco chips and charcoal for good root aeration.
Environment: It thrives at 20-28°C with 70%+ humidity and gentle airflow. Feed with diluted balanced fertilizer every 3-4 weeks during growth.
