Pitcher Plant (Nepenthes Ventrata)
Guidelines
Lighting : Bright, indirect sunlight (4–6 hours daily). A few hours of gentle morning sun promotes vibrant red pitchers. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun, which can scorch foliage.
Watering Keep the substrate consistently moist but never waterlogged or sitting in standing water. Use only mineral-free water—rainwater, distilled, or reverse osmosis water (under 50 ppm total dissolved solids). Minerals in standard tap water will burn and destroy the root system over time.
Substrate / Soil Requires an airy, nutrient-poor, well-draining medium. A 1:1 mix of long-fibered sphagnum moss and perlite (or fine orchid bark) is ideal. Never use standard potting soil, compost, or traditional fertilizers.
Humidity & Temp Thrives in 50–80% relative humidity and standard temperatures between 18–29°C (65–85°F). If ambient humidity drops too low, the plant will produce healthy leaves but stop forming new pitchers.
Feeding The plant feeds through its pitchers, not its roots. If grown indoors without access to insects, drop a dried mealworm or a single betta fish pellet into 1–2 pitchers once a month. Never overfeed or drop fertilizer into the traps.
