Anthurium pallidiflorum
Anthurium pallidiflorum is a striking species from Colombia and Ecuador, known for its long, strap-shaped, velvety green leaves that can reach 60-100 cm or more in mature plants. The leaves emerge with a coppery tint and have a slightly quilted, textured surface, while the pale, greenish-white spathe and spadix give the species its name. It grows as an epiphyte or semi-terrestrial plant, forming a bold, upright rosette.
Light: Bright, filtered light works best. East-facing exposure or 50-70% shade cloth suits it. Strong direct sun burns the foliage, while low light leads to weak, floppy leaves and slow growth.
Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist but well-drained. Water when the top 2-3 cm feels dry, and never let the roots sit in water. Use a chunky mix of bark, perlite, coco chips and charcoal.
Environment: It prefers 20-28°C and 70%+ humidity with steady airflow. Feed with diluted balanced fertilizer every 3-4 weeks during growth.
